Free Crochet Pattern - Teacher Appreciation Pencil Scarf

Image
Teachers can have such an impact on our children's lives. Recently my son's teacher had to leave the school to care for her ailing mother, and because she had been such a stellar influence on my family I felt compelled to create her a parting thank-you gift for all she's done. If there's a teacher or educational professional in your or your child's life that you appreciate, give them a gift of thanks with this cute crochet Pencil Scarf. It features easy texture stitches for the body (post stitches) and the ferrule (back loop single crochet) to give it some depth, and graphghan-style lettering to let the recipient know you think they're "No. 1". The lettering may be difficult for beginners, but instructions are provided to leave it off if desired. The length of the scarf can also be extended or reduced by adding or subtracting rows in the yellow body of the pencil before the lettering section. It doesn't need a full skein of any color except ye

Free Crochet Pattern - Plarn Laundry Caddy

Image
Anyone who has ever lived in an apartment or other place that has no in-unit laundry can attest that lugging a full hamper to the laundry room/laundromat while juggling the detergent bottle and other things like coins and dryer sheets is a royal pain. What we wouldn't give for somewhere convenient to put those things so we can focus on the heavy hamper... Well, look no further for a solution, fellow laundry-luggers! This little Plarn Laundry Caddy will give you a designated space perfect for a 40-60oz detergent bottle, as well as a bit of extra room to slip in your coin pouch or dryer sheets, all without taking up space in your hamper. The pouch is also a great place to stash your clean socks or undergarments on the way back home, and when not in use you can just leave the pouch attached to the hamper until it's time to do laundry again. Free Crochet Pattern - Easy Plarn Bottle Cozy

Image
Last year, I got a nice insulated metal water bottle for Christmas. I love the way it keeps things cold for near 24 hours, and can even keep hot things hot for 6! The first time I took it to Chorale rehearsal though, I found out what I like least about metal water bottles - you knock them over by accident and they go CLANG far more loudly than you'd like. So my crochet gears started turning in my head about how I can fix this problem, and I came up with a bottle cozy! But I wanted a stiff one that wouldn't stretch or sag... so why not use plarn? I had already made a market bag with it and knew its properties - easy to clean, sturdy, eco-friendly - so I got down to it, and the following pattern is the result! Almost an entire year later it's still in great shape, and instead of the clang it makes a dull clunk when knocked over so it serves its purpose well. This easy-difficulty pattern is written for a 3" diameter water bottle, but because it consists of a simple c

With winter approaching quickly, what better pattern for my first post but this! These quick and easy bulky fingerless gloves with optional thumbs and mitten tips provide the warmth of a mitten, while having the option to keep your fingers free when you need them! My husband loves them. This particular pattern is made for wrist size 8-9" around, but if worsted weight yarn is used instead they may fit smaller hands (untested; feel free to leave a comment how it turned out if you try it!). They use only variations of half-double and single crochet stitches, and I have provided a list of terminology used at the beginning of the pattern. Enjoy!
